Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Why is a medical required for the C1 License?
The D4 medical form that is completed is a statutory requirement for all drivers who are driving a heavy loaded vehicle and in this situation this is likely to be a C1 category license vehicle such as an ambulance. All of our medicals are assessed to the strict Group II DVLA standards. However, our friendly doctor will guide you through the whole process from A-Z to ensure that you have a seamless journey to and from our clinic.
2. What would the C1/ambulance medical involve and how long will it last?
The C1/DVLA Appointment will last approximately 15 - 20 minutes and involves the doctor assessing your height, weight, blood pressure and also your visual acuity by getting you to read letters from an eye chart. Following this, the doctor will ask a thorough set of questions and review any relevant medical history, GP records or hospital records that might be relevant. Again, medical records are optional but should there be a condition that is being dealt with extensively between your GP and the hospital, then it is highly recommended to bring printout letters or notes.
3. How often would I need a medical for C1 Licensing?
You would need the medical at the following intervals:-
(a) New-time applicant when applying for C1 License.
(b) Every 5 years starting from your 45th birthday up until the age of 65 years old.
(c) Every year from the age of 65 years old onwards.
4. How long would the form be valid for?
Once the form has been signed and stamped, it would be valid for 4 months from the date of the medical.
